Solar Panels

Electricity- free from the Sun

A Photovoltaic (PV) system is a method of generating 100% clean electricity by harnessing solar energy via solar panels placed on the roof of your house, the energy produced by the solar panels can be consumed in the household or fed back into the mains electricity grid.

Photovoltaic comes from the words photo (meaning light) and volt, a measurement of electricity. It is usually abbreviated to PV or Solar PV.

Benefits of solar panels

  • Allows you to harness free energy from the sun
  • Beats rising electricity prices
  • Produces clean, renewable energy
  • Reduces/ eliminates your power bill
  • Comes with a comprehensive manufacturer’s warranty

Metering

What is the difference between NET metering and GROSS metering?

When having solar panels installed, GROSS metering configuration means all the electricity generated by the solar energy system is directly fed back to the grid. The Solar Bonus Scheme credits are applied to the total amount of electricity you system generates (i.e. everything your solar panels generate exports to the grid) and your electricity consumption (or imported electricity) is billed as usual.

The other option is NET metering configuration. This is set up so that any electricity generated by the solar panels is always used on the premises first. Electricity generated by the solar panels is only fed back into (or exported to) the electricity grid when the amount generated is more than is being used on the premises.

Net and gross metering both has their advantages- talk to your solar consultant about what is going to work best for you.
