It's time for real action on climate change Real action on climate change will require a comprehensive strategy to decarbonise the Australian economy starting with a carbon price and constraint on emissions, according to Australia’s clean energy industry.
The Clean Energy Council (CEC) has briefed Australia’s major political parties, asking them to demonstrate genuine leadership in addressing the risk of dangerous climate change.
CEC Chief Executive Matthew Warren said this will require a carbon price as soon as possible, supported by measures to drive the rapid roll out of new and proven clean technologies.
He said this will also require the implementation of effective measures to encourage more efficient use of energy across the economy and encourage more dynamic and flexible energy markets.
“The Australian public wants strong action on climate change and cheaper clean energy. Implementing a carbon price will change the mindset of business: from trying to minimise costs to maximising the opportunities from decarbonising the economy,” Mr Warren said.
